The Chandravansa (Lunar Dynasty), sons of Brihanmanas
of the Kurus in the war with the Pandavas, during which he was slain by Arjuna. (m. having victorious chariots. Bhagavad-Gita
83) abridged JC.
Chandra-vansa candra-vansa (Sanskrit) [from chandra
moon + vansa lineage, race] Also Chandravamsa. The lunar race; one of the two great royal dynasties of ancient India. As related
in the Vishnu-Purana, Soma (the moon), the child of the rishi Atri, gave birth to Budha (Mercury) who married Ila, daughter
of the other great royal dynasty, the Suryavansa (solar race). Her descendants, Yadu and Puru, founded the two great branches
of the Chandravansa (named respectively Yadava and Paurava). The last important scion of the race of Yadu was the avatara
Krishna. In the race of Puru were born Pandu and Dhritarashtra -- parents respectively of the Pandavas and Kurus, the heroes
of the Mahabharata enumerated in the Bhagavad-Gita (ch 1). "In Occultism, man is called a solar-lunar being, solar in his
higher triad, and lunar in his quaternary. Moreover, it is the Sun who imparts his light to the Moon, in the same way as the
human triad sheds its divine light on the mortal shell of sinful man. Life celestial quickens life terrestrial" (TG 76).
Chandrayana candrayana (Sanskrit) [from chandra moon
+ ayana advancing, course] The path or course of the moon. TG.
The Vayu Purana declares that Moru will re-establish
the Kshattriya in the Nineteenth coming Yuga. (See "Five years of Theosophy," p. 483. "The Moryas and Koothoomi.") Ibid. HPB.
The color of the Kshatriyas red. WQ.Judge.
And the name of the Manu who will be the King of the
next Race, is said in the Purana to be Moru; and the name of the ideal Brahmana who will be the Teacher of the next Race is
said to be Devapi; and these two are King and Teacher for the sixth Race that is to be born. Avataris. A Besant. 1899.
He and his Brother. the Master K.H., work almost as
a unit, and have done so for many centuries and will, on into the future. IHS 54/5. 1922.
Evidently when the highly respected A Besant wrote,
Helena Roerich and Blavatsky also, it was thought that the feminine Devapi would be the world teacher of the next race.
Devapi was the Mother of Shri Krishna who was a former incarnation of the Christ. I have read that she together with the Christ
would take delivery of the new sixth root race. We are of course told now that Master KH will be the next world teacher. How
closley KH is linked with Devapi is for our meditation! But they, Christ, Devapi and Chohan KH are all on the Brahmin
second ray line. A beasant, H Roerich and H P Blavatsky all link extreamly closely Maru [Moru] of the Solar race and
Devapi/Christ just as the Master DK closely links the work of Master Morya [Solar cast] and Master KH [Brahmin Lunar Cast].
DK emphisises for good reason I think, that they work almost as a unit and will into the future for the merging of the fifth
race into the sixth. JC.
Now in the womb of the fifth Race, the sixth Race is
a choosing, and the King and the Teacher of the sixth Race are already at Their mighty and beneficent work. They are choosing
one by one, trying and testing, those who shall form the nucleus of the sixth Race; They are taking soul by soul, subjecting
each to many a test, to many an ordeal, to see if there be the strength out of which a new Race can spring
Then will He call out the chosen, the King Moru and
the Brahmana Devapi, and give into Their hands the Race that now They are building, the Race to inhabit a fairer world, to
carry onwards the evolution of humanity. Avataris. A Besant. 1899.
He and his Brother. the Master K.H., work almost as
a unit, and have done so for many centuries and will, on into the future, for the Master K. H. is in line for the office of
World Teacher when the present holder of that office vacates it for higher work, and the sixth root-race comes into being.
I shall quote an interesting passage from 'The Secret
Doctrine' taken from the Puranas... Helena Roerich.
'...Two persons, Devapi, of the race of Kuru and Maru
[Moru], of the family of Ikshvaku, continue alive throughout the four ages, residing at Kalapa [Shambhala]. They will return
hither in the beginning of the Krita age...Maru {Morya} the son of Sighra through the power of Yuga is still living...and
will be the restorer of the Kshatriya race of the Solar dynasty....'
Thus, the initiated Hindus know much about their Mahatmas,
who dwell in the Trans-Himalayas, but from the curious they guard well this sacred knowledge. In her time, many of them opposed
H.P. Blavatsky, for she gave out to the world these sacred names. Letters Of Helena Roerich VolII. 1936.
The King Moru and the Brahmana Devapi, give into Their
hands the Race that now They are building, the Race to inhabit a fairer world, to carry onwards the evolution of humanity.
Avataris. A Besant. 1899.
Devapi (Sk.). A Sanskrit Sage of the race of Kuru,
who, together with another Sage (Moru), is supposed to live throughout the four ages.
The two, Devapi and Moru, are supposed to live in a
Himalayan retreat called Kalapa or Katapa. This is a Purānic allegory. THE THEOSOPHICAL GLOSSARY BY H.P. BLAVATSKY.
He dwells, as does his Brother, the Master K.H., at
Shigatse in the Himalayas, and is a well-known figure to the inhabitants of that far-away village. IHS 54/5. 1922.
Draupadi: Monarch of the Kuru's line.
Kuru soldiers struck with panic neither stood and fought,
nor fled, Gazed upon the distant Arjun, gazed upon their comrades dead! Arjun twanged his mighty weapon, blew his far-resounding
shell, Strangely spake his monkey-standard, Kuru warriors knew it well, Sankha's voice, Gandiva's accents, and the chariot's
booming sound, Filled the air like distant thunder, shook the firm and solid ground. Kuru soldiers fled in terror or they
slumbered with the dead, And the rescued lowing cattle with their tails uplifted fled! MAHABHARATA By Romesh C. Dutt (1899)

The Kurus represent the lower material elements in

p. 51) or 'best of the Kurus' (Bhagavad-Gita, W. Q. Judge, p. 35).
SD INDEX: Kuru (Skt), Devapi of race of. I 378.
For advanced man at this time these incarnations took
place upon the moon chain and in some cases upon certain planets connected with the inner round. This is the circumstance
which necessitated his "coming-in" during the Atlantean root-race. Men of this type refused to incarnate earlier, as the bodies
were too coarse; this was the cyclic reflection (on the lowest plane) of the refusal of the Monads to incarnate at the dawn
of manvantaric opportunity.
No real "sin" was committed; it was their privilege
to discriminate, and this refusal has its bearing upon conditions upon Earth, being the basis of the great class distinctions
which - in every land - have been so fruitful of trouble and the esoteric foundation of the "caste" system, so abused now
in India. The problem of labor and capital has its roots in the subjective distinction between "equipped and unequipped" Egos.
TCF 862.
The Yuga had now gone far and the kshattriya [M's solar
race jc] caste had risen and was ruling, mighty in its power, great in its authority, the one warrior ruling caste, and alas!
abusing its power, as men will do when souls are still being trained, and are young for their surroundings. The kshattriya
caste abused its power, built up in order that it might rule; the duty of the ruler, remember, is essentially protection:
but these used their power not to protect, but to plunder, not to help but to oppress. A terrible lesson must be taught the
ruling caste, in order that it might learn, if possible, that the duty of ruling was to protect and support and help, and
not to tyrannise and plunder. The first great lesson was given to the kings of the earth, the rulers of men, a lesson that
had to be repeated over and over again, and is not yet completely learnt. Avataris. A Besant. 1899.
Therefore he who gave it brake it, till men should
learn by suffering what they would not learn by precept And on the field of Kuru, the kshattriya caste fought its last great
battle; none were left of all that mighty host save a handful, when the fighting was over. Never has the caste recovered from
Kurukshetra. It has not utterly disappeared. In some districts we find families belonging to it; but you know well enough
that as a caste in most parts of modern India, you are hard put to find it Why in the great counsels of the world's welfare
was this done? Not only to teach a lesson for all time to kings and rulers, that if they would not govern aright they should
not govern at all; but also to lay India open to the world. Avataris. A Besant. 1899.

This secret of translation is the underlying cause
of the caste system, and caste is a symbol of translation. In the last analysis, souls pass from caste to caste as they "translate"
their bodies. The clue to the translation is to be found in the fact that no act of translation ever involves one body alone,
and no "passing on and up" into another dimension, into another state of consciousness and another "caste," ever takes place
unless an alignment has been produced between (for instance):
The physical body and the emotional body.
These
two and the mental body.
These three and the soul.
These four and the group of World Servers.
In these four alignments we have the esoteric parallels
of which the outer caste system is the prostituted symbol. Ponder on this, for the caste system is universal in the world.
It is when the third alignment has been truly accomplished and when the light of the fourth constituent to the relationship
dominates the inherent light of the other three, that the objective of man's evolution is reached. EPI 328.

We are told precisely of the solar cast on the line
of the destroyer who perhaps following their line of least resistance succumbed to control, rule and plunder rather than protection
and perhaps nurcher of the upcoming so called other cast, the Brahmins. This the world over. Since that time the Brahmins
became dominant over their brothers. Master DK lately informs us that that control is now over. The outcome will be
the balancing and equal opportunity for service to humanity in line with their ray line. Ultimately leading to the seeding

CHAPTER XIII
DEVOTION BY MEANS OF THE DISCRIMINATION
OF THE KSHETRA FROM KSHETRAJNA ______ KRISHNA: This perishable body, O son of Kunt , is known as Kshetra; those who are acquainted
with the true nature of things call the soul who knows it, the Kshetrajna. Know also that I am the Knower in every mortal
body, O son of Bharata; that knowledge which through the soul is a realization of both the known and the knower is alone esteemed
by me as wisdom. What the Kshetra or body is, what it resembleth, what it produceth, and what is its origin, and also who
he is who, dwelling within, knoweth it, as well as what is his power, learn all in brief from me. THE BHAGAVAD-
GITA THE BOOK OF DEVOTION DIALOGUE BETWEEN KRISHNA, LORD OF DEVOTION, AND
ARJUNA, PRINCE OF INDIA From the Sanscrit By WILLIAM Q. JUDGE
Know, O chief of the Bharatas, that whenever anything,
whether animate or inanimate, is produced, it is due to the union of the Kshetra and Kshetrajna- body and the soul. Ibid.
GH- Kurukshetra literally, 'The field of the Kurus':
a plain situated in the vicinity of modern Delhi on which was staged the great conflict which forms the principal theme of
the Mahabharata. (Compound Kuru, and kshetra, field. Bhagavad-Gita, W. Q. Judge, p. 1)
TG- Kurus (Sk.). or Kauravas. The foes of the Pandavas
in the Bhagavad Gita, on the plain of Kurukshetra. This plain is but a few miles from Delhi.
GH- Kurus (or Kauravas) An ancient people inhabiting
the northwest of India, in the vicinity of the modern Delhi. In the Mahabharata they are divided into northern and southern
Kurus: the northern occupying one of the four Mahadvipas (principal divisions of the known world), and regarded as a country
beyond the most northern range of the Himalayas, often described as a country of everlasting happiness and considered to be
the ancient home of the Aryan Race. The southern Kurus were those referred to in the Bhagavad-Gita reigning at Hastinapura.
WG- a Kurus, the enemies of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata.
The Kurus represent the lower material elements in our nature: the Pandavas the higher. The war which is carried on between
these on the plane of Kurukshetra represents the struggle Man has to make in order to gain control over his lower nature.
In the text (of the Bhagavad-Gita, W. Q. Judge, p.),
the reference to the Kurus is applicable to the sons of Dhritarashtra, although the sons of Pandu are equally 'Kurus.' And
so Arjuna is referred to as 'the best of the Kurus,' for he was a descendant of Kuru by the fifteenth remove. (Bhagavad-Gita,
W. Q. Judge, p. 4)
Samvarana begat upon his wife, Tapati, the daughter
of Surya, a son named Kuru. This Kuru was exceedingly virtuous, and therefore, he was installed on the throne by his people.
It is after his name that the field called Kuru-jangala has become so famous in the world. Devoted to asceticism, he made
that field (Kurukshetra) sacred by practising asceticism there. And it has been heard by us that Kuru's highly intelligent
wife, Vahini, brought forth five sons, viz., Avikshit, Bhavishyanta, Chaitraratha, Muni and the celebrated Janamejaya. And
Avikshit begat Parikshit the powerful, Savalaswa, Adhiraja, Viraja, Salmali of great physical strength, Uchaihsravas, Bhangakara
and Jitari the eighth. In the race of these were born, as the fruit of their pious acts seven mighty car-warriors with Janamejaya
at their head. And unto Parikshit were born sons who were all acquainted with (the secrets of) religion and profit. And they
were named Kakshasena and Ugrasena, and Chitrasena endued with great energy, and Indrasena and Sushena and Bhimasena. And
the sons of Janamejaya were all endued with great strength and became celebrated all over the world. And they were Dhritarashtra
who was the eldest, and Pandu and Valhika, and Nishadha endued with great energy, and then the mighty Jamvunada, and then
Kundodara and Padati and then Vasati the eighth. And they were all proficient in morality and profit and were kind to all
creatures. Among them Dhritarashtra became king. And Dhritarashtra had eight sons, viz., Kundika, Hasti, Vitarka, Kratha the
fifth, Havihsravas, Indrabha, and Bhumanyu the invincible, and Dhritarashtra had many grandsons, of whom three only were famous.
They were, O king, Pratipa, Dharmanetra, Sunetra. Among these three, Pratipa became unrivalled on earth. And, O bull in Bharata's
race, Pratipa begat three sons, viz., Devapi, Santanu, and the mighty car-warrior Valhika. The eldest Devapi adopted the ascetic
course of life, impelled thereto by the desire of benefiting his brothers. And the kingdom was obtained by Santanu and the
mighty car-warrior Valhika... O thou of Kuru’s race, had by austere penances acquired the status of Brahmanhood, where
the royal sage Sindhudwipa, and the great ascetic Devapi, and the adorable and illustrious Muni Vishvamitra of austere penances
and fierce energy, had all acquired a similar status. sacred-texts.com/hin/m01/m01095.htm - 11k
KURU: Ancient king and founder of the Kuru dynasty.
Due to his performance of sacrifice and asceticism at the site, the place known as Kurukshetra, named after Kuru, is considered
sacred.
KURU'S: (Kaurava's) Sons of King Dhritarāstra, hundred
in number, where Duryodhana is the most known. Opponents in the battle of Kuruksetra with their nephews the Pandava's, who
were also Kuru's, descendants of Kuru.
KURUKSHETRA: ['Field of labor'] A holy pilgrimage place
going back to the oldest Vedic times; close to present New Delhi in India. Place where the war, described in the Mahābhārata,
took place and where Krishna spoke His Gītā to Arjuna.
Kurukshetra: Baba said that the name Dharmakshethra
was used for the battlefield, wherein the Gita was taught. Though its real name was 'Kurukshethra', it was referred to as
Dharmakshethra, in the Gita, for, it was the field where Dharma won over A-dharma, where Right prevailed over Wrong. Indeed,
the body of man is the genuine Dharmakshethra, the battlefield where right fights with wrong for victory. Ksha means that
which suffers kshaya, or decay through vice; thra means that which recovers by means of virtue. So, the body which flourishes
and perishes through virtue and vice is the kshethra; it has to be made into a Dharma-kshethra, by the discovery of the dweller
within the body, the Kshethra-jna, the Atma, the Antharyamin."
Kurukshetra: A holy pilgrimage place going back to the oldest
Vedic times; close to present New Delhi in India. Place where the war, described in the Mahābhārata, took place and where
Krishna spoke His Gītā to Arjuna. Kurukshetra: 'Field of labor'.
Kurukshetra: Baba said that everyone is living, moving,
acting and accumulating merit or demerit as a consequence, in Kurukshetra, for, 'Kuru' means 'to do'. In this process, if
the current of Dharma illumines every moment of life, then the Kurukshetra becomes Dharmakshetra (SSS-III).
SHANTANU: Great grandfather of the Pāndavas and Kauravas,
and Bhīsma's father from his union with Ganga. After retirement, he went to Mount Archika in the Himalayas and practiced asceticism,
finally attaining liberation.
